Well Greece has been marvelous, tonight is our last night here before we start our trip back to Rome. It's been a blast though...met some more friends and have been hanging out w/ them along with just chilling on the beaches. Yesterday we rented a couple of ATV's and went all around the island, it was amazing. Our hostel is about 3 minutes from a great black sand beach and yesterday when we went out we saw another black sand along w/ a crazy cool red sand beach. Drove all along the coast, up a couple of cliffs and then went to the city Oia for a gorgeous sunset. We did all this with a couple of girls from England that we met. Been enjoying some really cheap Greek gyros, they are delicious. Then we went out one night and there was this cheese thing we ordered...so good. Steve, when I saw it Carla said that she could see you in me because I just went..."Mmmmm, cheese." Haha, so we definitely thought of you with it. Lots of really cute little shops and all the Greeks are just so nice. Ummm...trying to think of anything else that's been happening. Today was kind of our sick day of the trip, we both woke up not being able to talk but we threw in our laundry and took a nap so we've felt much better all day, went down to the beach. Carla climbed a little ways up a mountain side to jump in the sea. Other than that, now I'm just starting to babble so I'll let ya'll go. Love lots, Denise
P.S. My mom pointed out to me...comments guys...I mean really, we are sitting over here hoping everyone is alive as we hear from NO ONE. :) pssst...that was a hint. :)
You can tell two things for sure. Where we are has cheap internet so we blog more often...and that it's getting to be towards the end of our trip and we are anxious to talk to everyone! :) So like Carla mentioned we had a couple crazy days of traveling. Those seven hours of sleep she said? Yeah between the both of us I'm pretty sure! We made some friends on the first ferry from Canada and experienced the rest of the traveling with them. It was particularily funny when we got lost on the metro and the conductor spoke only Greek and was trying to explain it to us. But here we are, safe and sound. Greece is beautiful...the weather has been great for us. The entire trip we've been really lucky w/ it! Today we spent lazing around, swam a little, layed on the beach, window shopped. Life is tough. We did get lucky and were able to call home for Father's Day...we got a deal on a phone card...we were only supposed to get 110 minutes but instead we got 4 hours. :) But other than that. Nothing new in a day! Miss everybody!!! Denise
Florence was amazing. I have AWESOME pictures of the sunset over the city. It was from Florence we began our trek to Santorini (which is totally where we are now!). It started on Thursday at 11:30 with a train ride via Rome to Bari until 6:30 which we then walked across Bari (which was kind of sketchy looking during the day so we were glad we weren't there at night!) to the port to board the ferry which left at 8:00 and arrived in Greece (Patras) at noon the next day....from there we caught a train at 2:30 to a suburb of Athens at 4:30 to change onto a metro train that took us into Athens by 6:30...from here we caught another metro to the port (which after a mishap of missing our stop and having to backtrack [funny story there] to catch a the ferry to Santorini that left at 10 and arrived at 8:30 the next day... We then caught a shuttle to our hostel and here we are...48 hours later.... cough... good news...free alcohol on the 2nd ferry and free coffee and espresso drinks.... I believe we got about 7 hours of sleep total in there. But here we are... spending a beautiful afternoon on the beach and taking a nap...but I'm out of time...hopefully more soon...LOVE YOU ALL!
So it took awhile before we could find internet that didn't just steal all of our money pretty much. So back to Venice I guess. It was beautiful. Like I said we had our own little cabin and that was really nice to kind of have our own space. Just to let you know...we've had some inquiries...me and Carla are still getting along and talking. Not even fighting really...kind of weird. :) We walked around Venice...saw the pretty canals and gondolas (none were romantic...all were families or random groups of people). Saw lots of pretty sparkly things in the market and St. Mark's basilica. (spelling?) Oh man...bad thing about blogging in past tense...have to work my memory. Florence was also really nice. We met some new friends yet again and hung out with them for the night. Played foosball, watched a beautiful sunset, and went out for pizza. The next day we almost went to see Michelangelo's David but they raised the prices and well...slightly out of budget but we saw the gift shop. :) We did see Duomo church which is amazing and HUGE. But I should probably let Carla catch you up on some of our adventures. Miss you all lots!
Congrats to Thomas by the way...very exciting!! :) And hi back to Jane! Hope Jennifer LOVES Mary, have to let me know how the tour goes.
Hey, so this is counting down from less than four minutes on internet! Since Carlas blog we have had a blast. We went out with a bunch of people from our hostel in Nice and had a good time on the town. Carla ended up getting her shoes soaked from unexpected waves while skipping rocks too...only took 3 days to dry them out! Then the next day we hung out with our Irish friends we met in Barcelona. We sat around on the beach, checked out the flower and fruit market and went out to eat at a little sidewalk cafe. Carla fufilled a lifelong dream of sitting in France sipping espresso and people watching. I had a proud moment of actually drinking and enjoying a full shot of espresso. Go us. Then we took a night train to Venice...where we are now. We ended up sharing a car with a couple girls from Maryland...glad they spoke English but they still we of an interesting sort. Nice old Italian conducter that booped Carla on the nose after making a statement...like a foreign grandpa! We are staying at a PLUS camping hostel where we actually have our own little cabin. Very nice for very cheap actually. Spent yesterday lazing by their pool........ahhhh! Outta time, miss you all!!!!
So we are in Nice...our halfway point between Barcelona and Venice. The run to the train this morning got us energized and refreshed. We are traveling with a couple of girls from Northern Ireland that just seem to be heading in the same direction as us. We did manage the mad dash to the train this morning...with the metro stop a little farther from the station then we thought. After an uneventful train ride to Montpellier we found us some lunch and caught the connecting train to Nice. There was a little confusion with a train at the same platform going to Paris (Denise almost had a heart attack thinking I got on that train) We did get on the correct train with a beautiful ride through Southern France. We even were kept company by some fine (and by that I mean fine looking) French policemen who jumped a ride to the next town. They were friendly to us and apparently even internationally you do not play solitare alone. One guy had to help me with my plays. We did arrive to Nice successfully and are now booked into the hostel here enjoying the free internet. We may venture about the town soon and then it is onward to Venice tomorrow. That is about all.... Hope you who are reading this are having a splendid weekend and we need updates as well! We've got that Katherine is walking (sad to miss it) and Nicole has an interview..but that is it! We need more..... Stub a toe recently? Traffic tickets? New cars? People tend to forget to tell us things (Pointedly talking about our parents) Oh, and we didn't find any crepes in Barcelona, but we did it they're menu of the day which is about enough food to feed a small army. We also enjoyed La Boqueria which is a fresh food market with really cheap food. We haven't (cross your fingers) gotten sick off of water or food... What else what else.....we are getting tired of booking things...so much work, but besides that are having a blast. It's amazing how you instantly have so much in common with someone just because they speak the same language as you.
Love you all,
Carla
P.S. I hope this was informative enough for you :)
:) So by popular demand I guess I´m going to try to give you guys a longer blog. We are in Barcelona right now but we leave tomorrow to head to Nice. Yesterday we kind of got rained in but today we spent almost 3 hours on the beach and it was amazing. After seeing the Pacific once in my life I have now swam in the Atlantic while in Ireland and now in the Mediterranean. They have really cool markets around with a lot of very interesting people. To backtrack a little bit I guess...our entire Ireland tour was just Amazing! We went to a bunch of places (and pubs) like Galway, Killarny, Doolin, Blarney, etc. Then we had a day in London where we did have to put some pictures on discs because we have started to take them in excessive amounts. Carla also dropped her fleece sweatshirt in a puddle...not of water...yup...urine. We took a night bus to Paris then where we went on the chunnel...Carla ended up having a moment in there because we were in a bus which was in a box under the water so it wasn´t a restful moment for her to think about. Paris was really great though. The first thing we did was laundry because of our little London incident. We met up with a friend from our Irish tour and ended up meeting someone from Illinois that we hung out with a lot. (I guess Carla mentioned that). We went to the Louvre and saw the Eiffel tower, a bunch of times. Ended up having a picnic there and playing frisbee in front of it. Climbed about halfway up it too.We did see a lot of other things too (Notre Dame, etc).we took a night train to Barcelona which was surprisingly comfortable. It´s all been quite the adventure. We´ve been safe, don´t worry! And actually the people have all been very nice...even in France. Barcelona has actually given us some of the grumpier I guess. We both can´t believe that we´ve hit the halfway mark on our trip...but yet we´re really excited to get back to high speed internet and see all of you!! We definitely forgot to mention the other day though...congrats Jill and Steve on your anniversary...hope you had a marvelous one! Also, Katherine´s video is awesome....can´t believe we missed out on that!! In case anywone else wants to see our niece walk like a pro... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OntqXOZCw_U It´s adorable! I hope everyone is having a great summer and can´t wait to talk to you soon!! Love, Denise

Denise and I have been having a blast in Paris. We met up with a friend from the tour and also met a traveler from Illinois who we have been bumping around town with. We had quite the time of it getting here with some quality backpack hours. we arrived in Paris very early on Sunday morning so when asked we can say the first thing we did in Paris was do laundry. Paris was a blast and we only got lost twice. We are leaving for Barcelona tonight. Love you all but I'm running out of internet time.
